Meet Ben Midgley

Ben Midgley’s life is built on the Maine values of honesty, resilience, and community. He grew up in York County, married his wife Sonia, who is from Lyman, and together they are raising three children in the same public schools Ben once attended.

His path was not easy. Ben left college early, faced unemployment, and at times relied on public assistance. Those experiences gave him perspective and determination. He started by cleaning gym equipment in exchange for a membership, worked his way through every role in the industry, and went on to build a three decade career in fitness leadership.

Career achievements include:

  • President of Planet Fitness
  • Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Crunch Franchising
  • Expansion to more than 460 locations across the country
  • Creation of more than 15,000 jobs

For Ben, leadership is not only about growth. It is about people. Fatherhood taught him that every individual has a gift, and true leaders create environments where those gifts can flourish.

Today Ben is committed to putting that philosophy to work for Maine. He believes families should be able to afford to stay, young people should find opportunity close to home, and the natural beauty of Maine should be preserved for generations to come.
